Women who opt for Caesareans treble their risk of serious complications

A study of more than 100,000 births showed mothers who had a Caesarean section when there was no medical need, were 2.7times more likely to suffer complications than those who had a natural birth. Mothers should only have a Caesarean section when there is a medical need, according to the authors of a new study from the World Health Organisation Women who opted for the operation were also more likely to suffer severe bleeding and ten times more likely to be admitted to intensive care.
