Surgical stitching: a beginner’s guide

Perri Lewis is an accomplished embroiderer – but how would she cope with sewing wounds? When I was 12 I went into hospital to have a lump removed and came out sporting a rather fancy set of stitches under my chin. I was pretty grumpy about looking like a mini- Frankenstein for a week – and never could figure out why I had two beads sticking from either end of the wound.
